Honestly, it is never easy for a mother to look at her child go through pain and hardships; go through the public shame and nakedness that Jesus had to go through on that road Via Dolorosa to the cross.
All this cruelty that Satan did, He did to Jesus in the presence of His mother. The tears, the helplessness that she felt. That desire to hold Him, to help Him so that He didn’t have to go through all this, must have filled her heart.
But then, this was the journey that Jesus needed to travel for us all to have hope of ever living a victorious life. Not even the pain from His mother’s face could make Him quit and loose the battle against self and sin. Instead, in the deepest love for His mother, Jesus continued on, and instead asked her to behold Him.
How often have we seen many a bright light be dimmed because of the negative influence of their parents and family? The lack of encouragement to continue on the victory march; the hurtful words spoken and sometimes even the pampering in sin and unhealthy living that causes one to not resist evil.
As parents, is it not our duty to raise these souls that Christ has placed in our hands so they can be a Godly seed? Is it not our duty to provide them an environment and training that prepares them for the birth pains of finding and living their God given purpose? To teach them to endure trial and hardships, rather than provide an unrealistic life of ease.
Like Jesus, every soul shall one day come face to face with the call of God, that will require their sanctification by the Holy Spirit in preparation for their new life. This is were the line is drawn, wether one will grow up and be their own person according to God’s will or wether they will refuse the needful birth pains of a new life. But whatever their choice, let us bear in mind that, “God’s gifts and His calling are irrevocable” Romans 11v29.
Even if Jesus’s mother cried a river, even if His beloved family was sad for His experiences in living His purpose, Jesus knew His calling was irrevocable, so it was only befitting to accept it in total obedience to God and love for humankind, and then live it so that victory could be won for all of us.
Are you avoiding your calling today; maybe because it will require you to quit that job you have? Or maybe because God will send you to some far away country and you cannot imagine how you’d make it without the warmth of your parents, siblings and loved ones? Are you fearful that He will ask you marry a woman or a man that you don’t have eyes for, but whose life speaks to your reason for existence? Do you fear that He will ask you to quit that darling sin and send you on the road to sanctification.
Friends, Jesus loved us so much, He quit pleasing and comforting His mother at this moment so that He could obey God’s call. After all, we were not all born by the will of flesh, but by the will of God are we here in this earth for such a time as this. We were all on God’s mind before we were conceived. Let us then find our purpose and live it fearlessly. Today is November 4, 2024; and to live our purpose today, self must die and the Holy Spirit must take over. Fill us now sweet Holy Spirit.
